TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
TDIH leaves us with only latter dead - only one show pre-1991. 3-17-93 - yes, I said 1993 - lets give it a whirl!

Re: TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
Im on board with ya Dali. This was the second to last show of the Grateful Dead that I attended (the last being
the next night). I enjoyed the opener and Desolation Row
in the first set, but felt kinda cheated at the two closers.
But the second totally made up for it. I was floored. And
I do remember The Days Between brought tears to my eyes.
It was the end for me though. The lot scene totally
disgusted me, and the T-shirts I was trying to sell were
confiscated. The guy actually want to take the shirt I
was wearing too!
All in all, I have no regrets. I had a good run.
Thanks for bringing this St. Pattys Day show to the forums
attention. And as always, thanks for the artwork.

. . . and thanks for posting the link - I don't know what I'm doing wrong here - have not been able to put up a hyperlink for quite some time.
Here is a little (non-dead) treasure I came across this morning - its a Toy Story 2/The Dark Knight mashup - hilarious!
http://tinyurl.com/d4jfymWould you believe that I'd not even started seeing the GD by this time?! My first and only was Vegas '95 - I was sad to have no shoes until I met a man with no feet.

dont let lobster know that Vegas 95 was your first and only
show.............oh! too late!
Im actally listing to an AUD:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1993-03-17.akg451.cdipietro.31957.flac16I tend to listen to AUDs from the shows I was at. Its
comforting to me to know I was part of the crowd noise.
And about the hyperlink; I just right click on the http
addy and copy, then right click in your post and paste.
Give it a try.
I find it funny that you can put up artwork that blows my
freakin mind, but cant copy and paste. Hope this helps Dali!!

Yeah I have a sour spot in my heart for those shows. That was the point when my attitude changed from "oh well it's an off night" to "Man, I'm really pissed right now." That feeling probably should have come sooner but when it hit it felt pretty bad.

Re: TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
I think CMiller's version is the best choice, straight SBD>DAT. What stands out in this show is The Handsome Cabin Boy Jam (d2t07) between Space and TOO. I'm not sure if it was ever played again. Jerry was regularly playing Cabin Boy with Grisman in their band. The jam here is sweet, delicate and mellow. TOO which is generally announced by Phil as gently as two trains colliding has a warm up that washes over you like waves. Trippy Healy effects on Bobby are a bit unwelcome in my opinion and spoil some of the mood landscape. Days Between brings us back to Jerry's introspective ballad mode. Check out this show from Playin' until the close of set 2, or if nothing else for the sublime Handsom Cabin Boy Jam..

FYI on the miller source, (at least in the embedded player) the track listed as Picasso Moon is actually LSD and PM starts at Crazy Fingers>

Great pick my friend. I have immersed myself in 1971 so much lately that I forget to come up for air and check out the latter years.
He added LSD to the end of disc 1 so set two could fit onto a single cd. I'm going to take Craven's advice and jump onto the next night's show before I get sucked into '71 again.

Yeah - I've been immersed in 72, 73, and early 80's for a time - I forget that these years were the years that I was actively searching out tapes and loving them! I'd still not seen the Dead and every show I came across was my favorite. I just gave away the last rack of tapes I had - I've got no tape deck anywhere, and my friend was talking up his system, so I laid them on him - he's not a 'head, just a music lover - I'm anxious to hear how he likes the shows.

Re: TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
We had a garage sale this past summer. I had my old tape racks for sale, priced cheap to clear out the garage. A young couple wander up and the girl had dreads. She was talking about her new apartment and needing to furnish it but not having much money. Said the racks would be good for her bootlegs. She bought the racks and I told her to hold on and went and got my 300+ GD tapes, 100+ JGB and 100+ Phish tapes. I bestowed the treasure trove on them and they were jumping with joy at their find. Not what she expected to find in suburbia. It felt good to do my good deed for the day. I like to think they are still enjoying them and telling the tale of the day they stumbled upon the motherlode.

Re: TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
I still haven't given away my tapes. Though I haven't listened to most of them in years, I can't seem to muster the strength to get rid of them.
In 1986, I gave away every piece of Vinyl I had, and I think that to this day I regret it. The thing is, when I was lugging things around from apartment to apartment, there was a cost-benefit to not dragging them around. But now, in my house, it's only a couple of plastic storage crates. How hard can that be to have sit there in my basement?
Anyway, I suppose that there will come a day when I need to jettison my tapes, but I haven't gotten there yet.
Incidentally, the last show I saw was 1994 at Soldier Field. I had already left the bus for similar reasons. It had simply gotten too big, and cumbersome. But, this 94 show had Traffic opening up, and I really wanted to see them.
I'm not sorry that I didn't see the Soldier Field shows of the following year, though.

Re: TDIH - who's with me? latter day dead |
I know what you mean about the tapes and vinyl. My vinyl I gave to the only friend I had in college with a record player. Like you, I somewhat regret it, but replaced the collection a decade later with a great find at a garage sale. The lady used to bartend in the late 70s at a ski shack that was mid-way from the top of Mt Hood to the lodge. She said she lugged her stereo and record collection up the mountain by backpacks with a couple friends at the start of each season. People would have a drink, make a request and ski off down the hill as she blasted the song with the doors wide open. Cool lady, she was moving too and I think she might have had reservations about giving up her records. Consider it the circle of life of our beloved music.

Although I'm not a big fan of 93 I'll give it a listen. One concern is that I noticed the Playing>DS combo clocks in at 17 minutes total.
